U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Museum Volunteer Program

Overview

The mission of the Air Force Space and Missile Museum is to collect, preserve, restore, and exhibit items of historical significance which directly relate to the development, heritage, missions, and units associated with USAF space launch activities, missile airframes, payloads, related systems development, flight testing, and Cape Canaveral history. Access to the museum is limited to tours originating from the Kennedy Space Center Visitors Complex, or tours arranged through the Patrick AFB Public Affairs office. Cape and KSC employees and badged official visitors may access the museum grounds any time (launch operations permitting). The museum is staffed primarily by volunteers in the areas of exhibit interpretation (docent) and retail sales (gift shop). Volunteers complete a training program and are evaluated by more senior volunteers to determine their proficiency before being placed on the active museum schedule.

Requirements for Volunteers
Volunteers must be age 16 or older. Volunteers are expected to participate in at least one scheduled museum tour per month. Volunteers may specify which days they are available and which days they are not. Volunteers must resolve scheduling conflicts by coordinating with other members of the volunteer staff (vacations, out of town business, etc). Volunteers must wear appropriate apparel while on duty (CAP members are permitted -- and encouraged -- to perform volunteer duties in uniform).

Benefits to Volunteers
Members receive the following immediately upon qualifying as a museum volunteer:
10% discount on all merchandise in museum gift shop

Members receive the following after six months of active volunteering:
